What Is a Paddle Spacer Blind?
A paddle spacer is an open ring with a handle, cut to the same OD and thickness as its matching paddle blind. The paddle blind isolates the line. When the blind is pulled, the spacer goes into the same gap, keeping the flange spacing and gasket seating correct so the line can go back in service without moving pipe.
Its rounded "O" cut handle sets it apart from the T or 7 handle on a paddle blind, so crews can tell at a glance which piece is in the line.

What Are Paddle Spacers Used For?
- Returning a line to service: replaces the paddle blind once maintenance, inspection, or testing is done
- Holding flange spacing: fills the gap so flanges don't have to be pulled together, keeping gaskets seated and bolting correct
- Marking an isolation point: the spacer stays in the line, so the blind can go back in the same spot at the next turnaround
