What is a paddle blind used for?
A paddle blind, also called a line blind, blind spade, or line blank, positively isolates a section of piping during maintenance, turnarounds, or hydrostatic testing. The solid plate is inserted between flanges to block flow and isolate downstream piping from the process.
What's the difference between a paddle blind and a spectacle blind?
A paddle blind is a single plate inserted between flanges. A spectacle blind (figure 8 blind) joins a solid blind and an open ring in one piece, so operators can switch between open and closed without removing it, and the position is visible at a glance.
What is a paddle spacer?
A ring spacer that goes in when the paddle blind comes out, holding flange spacing so the line can return to service. Spacers are used as a pair with paddle blinds.
Can I rent blinds from USA Industries?
Yes. Paddle blinds, spectacle blinds, paddle spacers, EZ Vent®, EZ Purge®, EZ Vent-Purge®, and blind flanges are available to rent or buy. The EZ Guillotine™ is purchase only. See rentals.
What sizes and pressure classes are available?
1/2" to 96" in ASME classes 150#, 300#, 600#, 900#, 1500#, and 2500#. Custom thicknesses and non-standard ratings are available on request. Paddle blinds conform to ASME B16.48 (up to 24") and ASME B16.47 Series A & B (26" and larger). Blind flanges conform to ASME B16.5 and B16.47.
What alloys are available?
Stocked in SA516 Gr.70 carbon steel, 304 SS, and 316 SS. Any alloy can be ordered, including 316L, Hastelloy, Inconel, and Duplex, for corrosive, cryogenic, or high-temperature service. MTRs are available on request.
What are EZ Vent®, EZ Purge®, and EZ Vent-Purge® blinds?
USA Industries' proprietary specialty slip blinds. EZ Vent® vents trapped gas or pressure, EZ Purge® purges nitrogen or inert gas across the blind, and EZ Vent-Purge® does both in one blind. They're ideal for hydrogen, LNG, and any line blinding that needs venting or purging.
